During today’s monthly update the decision was taken by @pilou and myself to permanently allocate 5% of our time to improve diversity.
This was communicated in a mail sent today to the DAPSI organization that provides the funds for our work during the next eight months.
Subject: Amending the fedeproxy deliverables to include diversity
Hi,
Although diversity[0] is a core value of the fedeproxy project from its inception, we failed to acknowledge that working towards diversity is a matter of spending time to continuously improve it[1]. Otherwise it is a blank statement and we would not want that.
To that end we decided to permanently allocate 5% of our time to work on that particular topic. Here is a concrete example based on this month DAPSI deliverable: recruiting participants for the User Research affinity session[2] focused on URM. Which, obviously, took more time and effort, but not too much: ~8 hours of additional work and a few calendar weeks delay is our estimation.
We thought important to communicate this decision to you and, if at all possible, amend the deliverables of the fedeproxy project to include an ongoing effort (from M1 to M9 “Ongoing effort to improve diversity”) and the associated KPIs to be defined with our mentor (cc’ed to this mail). We are not asking that the other deliverables or KPIs are revised, nor do we suggest that additional funding should be granted. We merely wish to make a statement and be held accountable for it formally for the months to come.
